ACTIVE SCHOOLS’ FLAG

2020:

This year we are taking part in ‘Active Home Week’ as unfortunately we aren’t at school at the moment. Find out how to take part on our Blog page.

The Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education and Skills Initiative supported by Healthy Ireland which aims to get more schools more active, more often. It is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community.

Last year Thomond Primary School worked really hard to make our school more active and achieve our Active Schools Flag. Everyone from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, from our parents to our teachers joined in and got involved. We set up an Active Schools Committee, selected playground leaders and P.E. Monitors to get the children across the school engaged in the process. The initiatives such as Wake Up, Shake Up, Dance Zone, 10@10 and Run around Europe were a great success and will remain a firm part of our school timetable. Our competition to come up with an ASF slogan for TPS gave us ‘We are T.P.S, we like to do our best by completing our active quest’

On the 31st of May 2019, we had our Accreditation visit where we got the opportunity to show off all the active initiatives we had undertaken. Our Inspector was very happy and the following week we received our Active Schools Flag. On Tuesday the 18th June, after our annual Sports Day, we all gathered around the senior yard to officially raise our flag – it was a proud day for T.P.S.

We will continue to keep up all the active schools initiatives that we all enjoy so we can keep the children in TPS more active, more often!
